Maó Space is a fashion boutique in Guangzhou. Themed "Dust of Time," the space is conceptualized as a small ruin amidst a bustling city. Utilizing Xuan paper, fiberglass, and a grey palette, it blends avant-garde designer furniture with a quiet, poetic atmosphere to collect fragments of time.

Set within a somewhat dim, steel-roofed old block in Guangzhou, Maó Space emerges as a poetic "ruin" that collects the fleeting fragments of time and fashion amidst a neighborhood suffering from "material obesity." We transformed a previously enclosed site into a transparent structure, maximizing the interplay between interior lighting and natural daylight to expose the curated merchandise.
The contrast between the light, asymmetrical glass doors and the heavy exterior facade subtly hints at the alternating pace of time. Embodying a quiet rebellion against the surrounding commercial noise, the boutique's visual identity features a deliberately misspelled Pinyin name. Furthermore, the store operates only during the day, and its unassuming storefront sign remains unlit at night, standing as a serene, silent observer of the city's fast-paced trends.

Upon entering the boutique, the entire space is immediately visible, intentionally embracing a slightly "chaotic" layout that caters to the high-frequency, ever-changing needs of fashion retail. A unified, modest grey palette spans the double-height interior from the first to the second floor, providing a muted backdrop that allows the diverse merchandise to take center stage. To articulate a unique perception of time, we boldly replaced traditional ceilings and plastered walls with Xuan paper (traditional Chinese rice paper) and heavy-ink handmade screens. These delicate, culturally rich textures contrast beautifully with the custom-made fiberglass cash desk and totem-like chandeliers, seamlessly blending traditional craftsmanship with industrial materiality in a harmonious environment.

The spatial narrative is further enriched by an intentional absence of sharp edges; curved walls, circular Mediterranean-style columns, and a winding spiral staircase create a gentle, classical atmosphere. This soft architectural shell houses an eclectic curation of avant-garde furniture that act as untouchable moments in time. Hand-welded Gothic galvanized steel display cabinets stand alongside Olivier Gregoire's paper-like distorted chairs and Glas Italia's transparent sofas.
We specifically designed a custom black chess-inspired table to complement the owner's beloved Oscar Tusquets chairs. Through the deliberate juxtaposition of heavy industrial metals, fragile plaster broken columns, and iconic pieces like the Gufram black-and-white sofa, we constructed a surreal, slow-burning sanctuary away from the relentless pursuit of fashion.
